The supercharger induction indicates that this is a late Tipo 159. Note the air intake going from the top of the carburetor to the vent in the cowl. See many more images from the new museum below.

New Giulia Sedan Lacks Toolbox

July 21, 2015 By pete

Fifty years and a toolbox separate the new from the old Giulia sedans

bro-1-570

By Pete Vack

The master of the universe who will purchase a 2015 510 hp Alfa Giulia Sedan will be missing one important element that past and current owners of classic Giulias often cherish; the intimate relationship an owner develops with his automobile by doing the tuning, maintaining, and repairing oneself. It is doubtful that new Giulia owners will ever have a need to get down and dirty with a spanner or socket wrench in hand, much less do it for fun. Nor will they ever have to carry a box full of tools and spare parts. [Read more…] about New Giulia Sedan Lacks Toolbox

Chateau Impney Hillclimb Revived!

July 21, 2015 By pete

Fiat-2-570

“You are going where? To what? When?”, I asked our foremost British correspondent when he said he’ll drop by Impney on the weekend of July 11-12. This one was a new one on us. In fact, it is the very first revival of the Chateau Impney hillclimb that was staged on the grounds of the Chateau Impney, originally run from 1957-1967. And what a revival it was. The turnout, the weather, and above all Sharp’s imagery were all spectacular; what else can we do but run as many photos as possible? And so we did. In this segment we list the Italian and French cars in alphabetical order. In another segment, we allow room –click here – for the magnificent non-Italian and French entries; cars you will not see elsewhere and yet so very fascinating= Ed. Allow us to digress. Mr. Sharp has returned from his foray with a wealth of photos, and although not one car below was built in France or Italy, we feel that you will enjoy the article in any event. For all the Italian and French cars that appeared at Chateau Impney, click here. Ed.

Story and Photos by Jonathan Sharp

Chateau Impney is in Droitwich, near the middle of England. Originally held between 1957 and 1967 the Chateau Impney Speed Trials, as the event was originally titled, was organized by the local Hagley and District Light car club and attracted many of the top exponents of sprinting and hill climbing of the time including Tony Marsh, Phil Scragg and David Good. Unique Giugiaro masterpiece to be sold at Chantilly, France

Story by Gijsbert-Paul Berk

In the same week that 78 year-old Giorgetto Giugiaro sold the remaining 9.9% of his shares in the Italdesign Giugiaro SpA to the Volkswagen-Audi group, the international auction house Bonhams announced that they will auction off one of Giugiaro’s icons, the unique Maserati Boomerang concept car. This auction will be held on September 5 during the Concours d’Elegance at the Château de Chantilly, near Paris, France. The Boomerang has participated at many world-class Show events such as the Bagatelle in Paris, Villa d’Este, the Concours Italiano, and Pebble Beach. In 2005 it was sold at an auction by Christie’s for €781,250 (US$1,007,005). [Read more…] about Giugiaro Retires, Boomerang at Auction

Michael T. Lynch: Art of the Car Concours 2015

July 14, 2015 By pete

One of the concept cars on the field that got a lot of attention was Scott Morris’ Rambler Palm Beach. This was a Pinin Farina creation built for American Motors Corporation. It was meant to be a replacement for Nash’s aging Nash-Healey and was first shown at the 1953 Turin Auto Show. The jet fighter-inspired design was a much more refined continuation of a theme Farina had begun with the Lancia 200 earlier in 1953. Shortly thereafter, AMC cancelled both the Nash and Hudson nameplates so the car never reached production. It remained with AMC President, Roy Chapin for a while. Both the colors and design are sublime and only the hubcaps reveal the chassis’ humble origins

Shortly thereafter, AMC cancelled both the Nash and Hudson nameplates so the car never reached production. It remained with AMC President, Roy Chapin for a while and is now with Mark Hyman. Both the colors and design are sublime and only the hubcaps reveal the chassis’ humble origins. The Rambler won Peterson Manufacturing’s Bright Ideas on the Move Award.

The 2015 Edition of the Art of the Car Concours® presented by the Kansas City Mercedes-Benz Dealers broke all previous attendance records as well as having over 200 entrants on the campus of the Kansas City Art Institute. Most important was the fact that in the Art of the Car’s nine years of existence, it has now contributed well over $1 million to the Kansas City Art Institute Scholarship Fund. KCAI is a four-year, independent, fully accredited college of art and design offering the bachelor of fine arts degree in a variety of disciplines. [Read more…] about Michael T. The Alfas that will run in the Parigi-Pechino Rally on the banks at Monza.

Story by Roberto Motta

As always, the cars and the drivers of the Scuderia del Portello attracted the attention of fans attending the Intereuropa Cup, an event that has returned to the calendar after the suspension of one year.

On the weekend of June 19 and 21, on the circuit and in the paddock at Monza, racing fans were able to see hundreds of racing cars that have left an indelible mark in the history of international sport. However, we believe that the most admired, engaging, and emotional were the Alfa Romeos of Scuderia del Portello. [Read more…] about Scuderia Portello’s Weekend at the Coppa Intereuropa
