London Concours: Lancias and Hot Rods

September 1, 2020 By pete

This line up alone was probably worth the price of admission.

Story and photos by Jonathan Sharp

The London Concours; at last a classic car event to attend, my first since Retromobile in February, and by the time it came around I would have been happy just to photograph a field of Morris Minors. But as you will see in the following photographs there was not a Morris to be seen.

Jano, De Virgilio and Fessia Lancias

To the Moon with Fessia.

By Pete Vack

From the Archives, October 2014

There is so much to say about Lancia, and Lancia and De Virgilio: At The Center. Both topics are far too large for the confines of an online magazine so we will try to contain ourselves. But we’ll take a quick look at the book itself and then discuss the Jano/Fessia Lancias and how they differed. [Read more…] about Jano, De Virgilio and Fessia Lancias

This year’s Concours of Elegance continued its tradition of taking place at a British Royal Residence. Following the three previous events held at Windsor Castle, Marlborough House on the Mall in London and Hampton Court it was time for the event to travel north of the border. The location for this year’s event was the Palace of Holyrood House, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh. [Read more…] about Royal Show at the Edinburgh Concours

Lonely Lancia

December 1, 2010 By pete

Dr. Howard Moon in his Lancia B20, neither lost nor lonely. Pretty happy in fact. Photographer, time and place unknown. But a nice photo to illustrate Montague's story.

By Montague Gammon III

Hard on the brakes at well over the speed limit in the left lane of Route 13 on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, I spun the wheel of my slightly tatty Plymouth Horizon and screeched into the break in the median strip.

The Lancia Aurelia B20: An Appreciation PII

July 1, 2009 By pete

An almost perfect example of a fourth series Lancia B20.

Part II
Read Part I

By Pete Vack
Very special thanks to Geoff Goldberg and Nigel Trow

An article or three, about the Lancia Aurelia, one of the most significant and important cars of the twentieth century. This week, Lancia’s famous independent suspension systems.

There is no doubt that the Lancia Aurelia B20 was technically advanced when it was introduced in 1951. As we will see, the B20 Aurelias–production-based Grand Turismos– won the Targa Florio outright and nearly won the Mille Miglia, largely due to the successful implementation of its four wheel suspension and transaxle.

As successful as it was, however, when reviewing the Lancia B20 suspension, two questions arise. Why did the Series 4-6 B20s series use de Dion type rear suspension, why with leaf springs, and secondly, why did Jano continue to use the somewhat antiquated sliding pillar front suspension?

A Car Life, by Larry Crane

The Crane B20 near the top of the Stelvio Pass in northern Italy in an attempt to duplicate a photo in the 1955 Lancia calendar.

“Of all the cars you’ve owned, which would you like to have back?” Always a popular question from friends who have most of their life’s income carefully invested rather than using it for an endless string of automotive experiences and adventures.
