Sebastien Loeb won the Rally of Finland, increasing his lead in the championship rally. The Citroen driver dominated the rally, remaining in command right from Shakedown, but also managed to resist the final challenge of the Ford WRC of Jari-Matti Latvala. With this victory, and with only five more events to be run, we can safely say that the World Rally Championship is being tinted in the red, white and blue of the French flag. Earlier this month, with the Rally of Sardinia, we had a glimpse of the future of the WRC with the debut of the Mini and the announcement of the WV Polo R for 2013. Three weeks later, the month of May witnessed the sixth round of the World Rally in 2011, and the second trip to South America. This time it was the Rally Argentina.

French Cars at Florida’s Tampa Bay Museum

May 25, 2011 By Brandy

Panhard: the Dynamic was made from 1936-9. It was the largest unibody car made at that time, with the steering wheel in the center of the dashboard. Even today, the styling is very dramatic!

Story by Brandes Elitch

At Retromobile, a few years ago, I picked up a copy of “Le Guide: Musees Automobiles de France,” published by the magazine “Auto Passion.” The guide covers 36 car museums. Some are well known: the museum at the LeMans circuit, the Schumpf (their equivalent of a National Motor Museum), Le Manoir, near Rennes, the Cadillac museum near Tours, the Henri Malartre museum, housed in an old mansion, near Lyon. I’ve seen all of these, and they are definitely worth seeing. But as it turns out, you can visit one of the most outstanding French car museums, without even leaving the US. That’s because it is located on the west coast of Florida – the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum. [Read more…] about French Cars at Florida’s Tampa Bay Museum

One of the most interesting aspects (and there are many) of the WRC is the fantastic photography made available via the press services of all the major players. Italian Editor Roberto Motta and I have developed a way to sort through the hundreds of images that Motta gets after each event. He will sort through and send me as many as one hundred images, and from there I’ll pick 20-30 for the article, or as in this case, articles. It is always a difficult joy to make the selections.

Hoping the make the WRC more interesting, new FIA rules now allow 1600cc turbo engine cars. So the Citroën Total World Rally Team has entered two new DS3 WRCs to defend their World Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ titles, but a tough challenger is the Ford Fiesta RSR WRC. Paris Retro with Hugues Vanhoolandt

February 23, 2011 By hugues

Amilcars are rare, coupes even rarer. But from 1921 to 1939 Charles Duval bodied a great number of Amilcars and was particularly noted for his charming coupes, this one on a 1926 CGSS.

Alessandro brought back the exciting, the electric, the eclectic and the elderly from the Paris Auto Show, held between October 2nd and 17th 2010. As usual, there was a large showing of classic and antiques in addition to the latest offerings from around the world. We mixed them up to remind ourselves that somethings change and others don’t, but we like them all.

Deux Chevaux, Deux, meaning two, and Chevaux, (Cheval Vapeur, or steam horse) a terms which means horsepower and was the the basis for a sliding scale of ratings for taxation purposes.

The Citroën 2CV was one of France’s most popular cars and was in continuous production from 1948 to 199. It was iconic, but not the result of Andre Citroën’s vision–he died in 1935 just as the planning for the 2CV was started.
