At the start of Saturday’s race reserved for professional drivers, Frank Stippler took the lead straight away in his 1965 Sprint GTA.

Having attended the Goodwood Revival many times over the years, one wonders each time how Lord March and his team will be able to surprise us again. But the quality of the demonstrations (Meyers Manx buggies, Jaguar XKs, D-Day parade, John Surtees Tribute) and the races mean that we come back for more each year, even if this one was greatly disrupted on Friday and Sunday morning by terrible weather. We will limit ourselves here to the tribute to John Surtees and the most emblematic races.

Recently we republished an old story by Ed McDonough about Count Felice Trossi, which prompted a reply from Nigel Griffiths, who told us he owned the ex-Trossi 6CM Maserati and would be at the 2019 Goodwood Members’ Meeting in April with the very same Maserati, s/n 1532.

Now isn’t that coincidental, I said, as Jonathan Sharp would also attend and could he get some photos of 1532? Of course, said Nigel. Jonathan checked the program and found that the 6CM is car 58 entered into race 4 with practice is on Saturday morning, and the Parnell cup is the first race at 9am on Sunday morning. We are good to go.

March 28, 2017 By pete

Alain de Cadenet is reunited with his Lola De Cadenet Ford T380 which formed part of the 3.0 Liter Prototype high speed demo display. Alain actually drove a 3.0 Liter McLaren M8C as part of the demonstration.

The shovels of the hard working Track Marshals are more used to spreading cement on deposited motor oil rather than shoveling up the deposited horse manure left by the mounts of the local Charlton Hunt as they run the hounds to open the 2017 Members’ Meeting at Goodwood on the Saturday morning of the event.
