Comment date 2015/09/16 Simon Moore: Motoring’s Sherlock Holmes Story ran March 2009 My father, Art Stump, had a bit of involvement with the Alfa at Indianapolis after the war. He also worked on other Alfas throughout his Career. After his death, I cleaned out his shop and discovered a box of pistons (that I recall him telling me about) that are marked Alfa. Wonder if they’d be of use to some one in the Alfa world? I have photos ready to go if any interest.

Yes George Stecher did the driving scenes for Darren’s character Casey Owens. These scenes were originally driven by my father (Dave MacDonald) but after his death in the ’64 Indy 500 George was called in to reshoot them. Citing sensitivity concerns Universal also removed all but one of my father’s speaking parts in the movie. Rmac
Bois de Boulogne P 3: Racing in the Bois Comes to a Close
By Clyde Berryman
There was more racing to take place in the Bois de Boulogne in the years following the 1945 event. The coupe de la Resistance on May 30, 1946 shaped up to be a promising re-match between Wimille and Sommer.

Vanhoolandt’s Goodwood
By Hugues Vanhoolandt

As can be seen from the above image, Hugues Vanhoolandt rarely misses a beat or someone’s mechanical misfortune. His selection of thousands of images taken at Goodwood this year had to be narrowed down to only 25 images; certainly not fair for him or our readers. So, have at it…. Goodwood sights and sounds
Race meeting programs normally have a picture of a racing car on the front cover. No racing cars on the cover for this year’s Goodwood Revival Meeting program. This year’s cover? Frozen Fish Fingers. Frozen Fish Fingers! Why? I will explain in a sentence or two. [Read more…] about Jonathan Sharp at Goodwood
Goodwood Side Shows
By Hugues Vanhoolandt and Jonathan Sharp

Sometimes life is rough. Like when, once a year, two of our finest photographers/reporters attend the same event. What is an editor to do? Fortunately each covers Goodwood with their very unique perspectives, even when shooting the same scene at the same time. Goodwood is home base for Jonathan Sharp, who is as addicted to WWII planes as he is to vintage cars. Therefore his comments and photos reflect this home game attitude and love of flying. For Belgium-based Hugues Vanhoolandt, he covers the sideshows with humor and photos that rarely need explanation.
We give each their own show and here we combine the most interesting sideshow images from both photographers. We alternated their photos; after all all’s fair in love and war. [Read more…] about Goodwood Side Shows

Comment date 2015/09/07 Castellotti by Gauld Story ran March 2014
Many thanks! Just a couple of comments:– At the Spanish GP, the last one of ’54 season, Lancia came with two iconic D50 (chassis nº 0001 and 0002), for Ascari and Villoresi respect.: they were fast but fragile and both retired early. There is a Castellotti biography titled “Un cuore rubato”, writen in Italian language, by noted historian Cesare de Agostini. Manel Baró

The big day, September 9, came at last. It had a distinctly patriotic theme about it to commemorate the participants and their sacrifices during the war. A crowd of over 200,000 was on hand to watch. [Read more…] about Bois de Boulogne, September 9, 1945 Racing Begins

This year’s Concours of Elegance continued its tradition of taking place at a British Royal Residence. Following the three previous events held at Windsor Castle, Marlborough House on the Mall in London and Hampton Court it was time for the event to travel north of the border. The location for this year’s event was the Palace of Holyrood House, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh. [Read more…] about Royal Show at the Edinburgh Concours

During the weekend of the Concours of Elegance this year held in Edinburgh, (see stories) RM Sotheby’s had its traditional auction in London. About 75 were on the block, with many Ferraris and few other Italians including Maserati, Lamborghini, Alfa, Lancia.
The results of the auction were rather good with about 75% of cars sold and a record price of 4.760.000 pounds (6.5 million euros) for the Ferrari 250 Tour de France chassis 0897 GT. [Read more…] about RM Sotheby’s Auction in London, September 7, 2015
