As so many of us do, Max Girardo inherited the automotive bug from his dad.
His father was into rallying, but as an 18-year-old in Italy, his weapon of choice was limited to Fiat 500s; then an upgrade to an 850 coupe. The pinnacle of his father’s career was the Renault 8 Gordini. After that, an accident broke his ankle and sidelined him for a while… at that point he met his future wife, and never really got back into it.

While Jonathan Sharp went after the Italians at Retro, Brandes Elitch did a Citroën biopic history, and Hugues Vanhoolandt told everyone he had dibs on covering the fantastic collection of Chapron DS models, the likes of which we have never seen before. Smart Guy. As part of the commemorations of the centenary of Citroën there were more than fifteen Chapron bodied Citroëns, all part of the same collection. Chapron exercised his talent mainly on the DS and each variation was present. A good time was had by all for Enzo’s birthday at the Petersen on February 17th, especially with a break in the rain.
Somebody must have switched Los Angeles’ weather for Seattle because the normally sunny city had a few weeks of intermittent rains. Enrico Nardi, described by the Americans ‘the wiz who can squeeze more power from an engine than the official R&D of the factory’ is a name well known to all car enthusiasts. His career began in 1930 with Fiat as a test driver. There is no other Ferrari quite like it. The hood from the nose of the car back to the windshield tapes out at almost 78 inches; the midpoint of the 102.3 inch wheelbase is ahead of the base of the windshield; vertical spoilers, or air foils, are used on each door to route air along the sides of the car and into ducting ahead of the rear wheel openings for improved tire cooling, certainly the earliest obvious use of an aerodynamic device on a Ferrari; vestigial fins appear on each rear fender, and check out those wild front fender fins, or headlight blinders, all very distinctive design touches, and unique to the four 340 Mexico Ferraris.
