Venting. Paying too much for newsstand magazines? Thank goodness for VeloceToday, which is still free.

Dear Pete,

As the author of the second part of the Alpine story for VeloceToday, (a disclaimer) I noted with pleasure the two letters in praise of the Alpine A110 article. Hopefully my article will also shed more light on this rare classic. Now you should do an article on the Matra Djet!

"The other thing that should be noted, and I have seen no commentary on this anywhere else, is how expensive some of these magazines have become."

Incidentally, one of those paper based magazines recently did an article on the Alpine, and it was nowhere near as comprehensive as your own - just a rehash of previously published stuff. It seems that the web based periodicals can (ironically) be not just more timely, but more comprehensive. I wonder why that is? Perhaps the paper ones are more concerned with just generating enough revenue from tire ads and spreads from auction companies than finding new aspects to automotive history? The other thing that should be noted, and I have seen no commentary on this anywhere else, is how expensive some of these magazines have become. The two main British magazines, which I call Tweedledum and Tweedledee, because of their often overlapping coverage (you wonder if they get together in January and compare their layouts for the rest of the year!) now cost ten dollars a copy. Even some of the American magazines, chock full of ads, are seven or eight dollars. Even I have to choke at these prices - that's almost three lattes!

Best Wishes,
Brandy Elitch

Thanks Brandy. We wish that more of our readers realized this amazing difference in magazines vs. Internet content pricing and often quality. Most Internet content is basically free, aside from the Wall Street Journal. That’s why we ask for contributions.

Your article on the Alpine is to be published shortly, we assure you! Ed.

Dear Editor,

A friend forwarded me a copy of your online magazine. Nicely done. The Alfa BATs and Superflow IV were shown at the Art Center show in Pasadena, CA on July 15.

Alfa B.A.T. from Jim's website.

As a certified BAT nut (I have the Bertone book and poster I picked up at the Paris Auto Show in '92, a set of James Francis Marsh drawings of them and commissioned 1/43 models for my collection!), I took a lot of photos of them and posted on my site, www.jimhayes.com.

Enjoy!
Jim Hayes

Dear Editor,

Would it be possible to buy a print of "Swiss Grand Prix, June 8th, 1947. Trossi #34 in the 158 Alfa."

Many thanks
Richard Stratton
