Dear Pete,

WONDERFUL!! I liked the informative story on the Alfa 164 Pro Car very much!! I'm a fan of such cars as the three Ford Supervans and the Renault Espace Williams!! Ok so they weren't intended for a series like the planned Procars.

I regret that I've never seen them in 'action'. A good friend told me a story from a practice session at Monza. It was between the morning and afternoon sessions, absolutely quiet, only the spectators were heard talking and amusing themselves... Suddenly a race engine was to be heard far away in the pits, then the sound got louder an louder, the sound was like a Formula 1 engine of that time. To the big astonishment of all who were there: around the corner came at unbelievable speed A DELIVERY VAN!!!, It was of course, to entertain the folks, a demonstration of the Ford Transit Supervan (I). Great story!!

Even when I write only once a year, every new issue of Velocetoday is eagerly awaited, and up to now I found in every issue something for 'me' !!

Thanks and best regards
Michael Catsch, Germany

VeloceToday is very grateful Roberto Motta for submitting this article. We’ll be seeing more from Mr. Motta in the near future and we know you’re going to enjoy it--

Peter

I enjoy your newsletter every time!
Now the V10 164 pro Alfa, I was one of the fortunate few who saw this car while in Balocco with Alfa, year 1984, the car was there, impressive the only problem...they could not start the car! There was no time to prepare it so we could have a ride around the test track. Thanks for such a great story.

Your article on the Lancia 037 and S4 says that Lancia's association with Martini began with the LC1.
The Martini tie-up began with the Montecarlo Group 5 car in 1981. The LC1 was raced in 1982 and was superceded by the closed LC2 for the 1983 season.

We agree. But that great article was written by Hugh Doran. And he agrees as well. Hi Pete,

I edit the magazine of the UK Maserati Club, Trident. I much enjoyed your piece on the OSCA Berlinettas and wondered whether you would be interested in having it reprinted in our Christmas issue.

Geoff Lancaster, Great Britain
Editor, Trident

Absolutely--and the new owner likes the idea as well, see below..

This is 1176, the missing and mysterious Morelli Berlinetta, after an accident in 1956 somewhere in the Midwest. It was rebodied with this unique Devin. We are clueless. Can anyone help?

Dear Mr Vack,

I have been reading your excellent offerings on the Net over some while...and was thus intrigued to read about the OSCA Coupes....Christophe Pund has sent me the letter he received, and the link to the Maserati Owners Club. I gladly agree to the pictures of the car I now own being used. Especially if any of your US readers can provide any pictures of this mysterious car. I was at Padova over this weekend for the cars/parts show for Historics, and spent some time chatting to a gentleman who owns an FS 372 OSCA, and was on good terms with the Morelli brothers of Ferrara who built many of the OSCA bodies. He said the older brother, who passed away a while ago, was always talking wistfully about the "Beautiful Berlinetta", and apparently had been influenced by the Alfa Giulietta Sprint coupe when building the car. I have asked Ing Alfieri Maserati if he had any photos, but he has searched the OSCA factory records he owns and has found nothing. So it is a big mystery. I am torn between leaving the rather scruffy Devin body (it was put on in period...mainly for expediency , I guess) and building a standard Morelli Barchetta design.

Best regards, Antony Childe-Freeman

Dear Sirs,

Good day, I wish to thank you for your mail that I appreciate very much. I wish to express my utmost congratulations for your dedication and work, but however I do not understand your language too much and therefore I have to write you in the Italian language to communicate.

With my very best wishes,
Antonio Maglione, Italy

Professor Maglione’s email was written in Italian and translated by our editor at large, Lorenzo Marchesini. We wish we could have VeloceToday translated into foreign languages. But since we have subscribers in over 100 countries, we wouldn’t know where to start!! I think that just indicates how popular Italian cars are all over the globe.

Carl Goodwin’s “The Racing Giuliettas” articles were full of great photos, this one from 1958 by Alix Lafontant.

Pete,

Really enjoyed reading the articles by Carl Goodwin on Racing Giuliettas. I was a course marshal at the first Put-in-Bay races. I also had, but never raced, a Special glass bodied, Ken Miles built coupe on an MG chassis. But that's another story! All I can recall about the 1st race was the feature event was won by a guy from Pittsburgh in a AC Bristol. I later went on to honeymoon on the Bay in 1959. Also enjoyed those photos of the old Bay races. Thanks for the memories.

Your obedient servant,
Roland Hayer
