The Acclaimed publisher of custom limited edition automotive books Velocity Group is releasing Observations on Ferrari 1946 – 1966 The King’s Eyes in soft cover.

This fantastic fully illustrated history takes the reader from the rubble of post-World War Two Italy to the height of the Mid-Century Era, addressing every F1 race and the newly established World Sportscar Championship as Ferrari defines high performance in these arenas.

We walk the factory floors and examine the unique Italian relationship between automobile manufacturer, with their focus of capital on innovative engineering, and the carrozzeria, whose industrial design concentration was on defining style for the modern driving experience.

At its base, this is the story of people, a select group of whom have the responsibility of foresight, to see the future of the automobile. In this case, the high performance automobile..in its ultimate state.

All the new softcover editions are being run by VG’s master printer in San Francisco on the same 2500 dpi press and in the same manner as the $525 to $2500 (Automobilist Century) publications. The only difference is producing them in small batches of 50.

As such they will still only be available through the website.
Pre-Sales start May 1st. Price? Only $125 plus shipping!

For more background here is the Observer’s Guide research document behind Observations on Ferrari, both the hard bound and new softbound.

Here are a few selections from the book:

And so the Editor wrote in his review of the first printing:

“Total mastery over complex technical and social material.

I’ve really never read anything like it in the automotive genre. In fact I doubt if there is anything like it in any genre. The author goes from CLEARLY describing the multiple valve spring arrangement of Lampredi’s Ferrari four to a discussion of GM’s role in the sports car movement. This combination of expertly commenting on both the technical and the social is unusual and used here to great effect. The width and depth of knowledge is amazing.

Reads like David Halberstam.

A landmark automotive book.”
