Waktins Glen to Raffle Cobra Replica

October 8, 2008 By pete

WATKINS GLEN, NY

For the second time since it began raffling high performance cars as a major fund raiser each year, the International Motor Racing Research Center at Waktins Glen, NY is offering a Cobra replica.

Evoking the grand sports car racing days of the 1960s, the Cobra replica is a car that will stop grown men in their tracks – whether it’s the rare, real thing or one of the exquisitely built replicas.

This year’s car boasts red leather seats and gray carpeting inside a white body with classic silver wide stripes, accented by red and blue pinstripes. The imported bloodwood dash encases Stewart Warner gauges. The seats have five-point, racing style safety harnesses.

The car is a completely rebuilt Ford 390cid “Big Block.” It has been driven fewer than 40 hours since the rebuild.

It has a four-speed, “top loader” transmission and a 9-inch Ford, positraction differential with 3.55 gears. The replica Halibrand “knockoff” alloy wheels are 15 by 8 in the front and 15 by 10 in the rear.

Only 1,750 tickets will be sold for the Dec. 13 drawing. The winning ticket will be pulled at noon at the Racing Research Center.

The ticket price is $60 for one or two for $100.
Tickets can be purchased via the Center’s Web site at www.racingarchives.org ; by visiting or writing the Center at 610 S. Decatur St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891; or by telephone at (607) 535-9044.

The Racing Research Center is an archival library dedicated to the preservation of motorsports, all series and all venues. It is open to the public without charge and welcomes the casual race fan as well as the serious researcher. It is fully supported by donations and fund-raisers, such as the car raffle.
The winner of the car raffle is responsible for all taxes and fees associated with the motor vehicle registration, as well as the pickup or transportation of the vehicle from Watkins Glen within 30 days of the drawing.
