French Classics, 2009 Techno Classica Essen

1958 Radovitch. Based on the Peugeot 403 4-door saloon, it was built by a French coachbuilder from Reims (France). Only one known to exist.

Bugatti celebrates 100 years, Talbots and oddities abound


1912 Bugatti Type 15. Built between 1909 and 1914, this is the first automobile launched under Ettore Bugatti’s name. It was an immediate success and the archetype for many later high performance sports cars.


Another Bugatti Type 15 (1913) with a sports body, 1400 cc, 20 hp, 100 km/h.


Bugatti Type 40A (1926) with a factory body, 4 cyl, 1.6 L, 60 hp.


Bugatti Type 35B 2.3 Liter with supercharger.


1931 Bugatti Type 51. It started life as a Type 35B in 1930 as a works car (1930 Targa Florio, GP of Europe, GP of France). By the end of 1930, converted to Type 51 for the 1931 season, it was then sold to the famous French driver Jean-Pierre Wimille.


1930 Bugatti Type 44 later converted to Type 43 spec.


Bugatti Type 49 (1932), body by Ruckstuhl (Luzern, Switzerland), 8 cyl., 3.3 Liter.


Bugatti Type 49 (1933) with a body by Gläser, 8 cyl, 3.3 Liter, 90 hp.


Bugatti Type 57 Coach Ventoux (1936), 8 cyl, 3.3 L, 135 hp.


Bugatti Type 57 Galibier (1939), 3.3 Liter.

Talbot Lago Grand Prix car, obviously modified for sports car racing in the early 1950s.


The big 4.5 liter Talbots were often successful in Grand Prix races, and in sports trim, also won at Le Mans in 1950.


1949 Talbot Lago Grand Sport bodied by Franay on the 2.65 m short chassis. 1 of 3 built by Franay according to coachbuild.com (2 coupes, 1 roadster).


Talbot Lago TS 14 Special Coupé (1956), built for French driver Louis Rosier. This one is has a unique front grille.


Talbot Lago T 14 S (1957). Designed by Carlo Delaisse, chief designer of Letourneur & Marchand was very expensive, costing twice the price of a Jaguar XK140.


1960 Panhard DB Le Mans : 2 cylinders, 850 cc.

The sports convertible was built on a Panhard PL17 chassis, with a plastic body. 200 built, 30 still in existence.
