“Shipshape and Bristol Fashion”

I suppose it had to happen. After something like 50 days without rain in the area, and frankly, rather unpleasantly hot temperatures, Wednesday September 2nd dawned wet and cool in Brighton. But the weatherman said it would clear later, so off I went to the Prive Concours. Three hours later I pulled into the car park at Blenheim Palace just as it started to rain; the weather had decided to follow me north and stayed with me for most of the day.
Founded by brothers Andrew and David Bagley, Salon Prive is now in its 21st year and as usual, day one of the event featured a variety of new car unveilings. Some were from the more established brands like Lamborghini, Brabus and Polestar, plus several from the new guys like Giamaro Automobili with their 2000 bhp plus quad turbo V12 powered Krafla, Talos with the restomod Ferrari-based Talos XXT and TWR with their ‘Supercat,’ a 660 bhp supercharged V12 GT based around a Jaguar XJS.
That was all very well and good, but I was really only interested in the cars entered in the Concours, which for the first time awarded two best in show prizes, with the traditional Concours d’Elegance award going to Amir Ravan and the RLC Collection for their 1969 Lamborghini P400S Miura, and the new Concours d’Excellence award for modern collector’s cars going to Terry Bramall’s 1995 McLaren F1.
For the past few years, the event has also staged a display of cars of a particular colour, and having already featured yellow and green cars, this year it was the turn of white cars. The event itself has now grown to a five-day extravaganza with the first two days being the traditional Concours days. Day three is the Boodles Ladies Day, and then at the weekend the event becomes a two-day Supercar fest. Unfortunately, the event booklet does not contain any individual car history so the following selection of my highlights of the show is simply a photo gallery. Full results follow the photos.

The Bristol Fighter is back. It was announced on the first day of the show that Bristol was back and was going to build five more V10 powered Fighters using unused chassis built during the original production run.
