Donald Healey

Donald Healey Goes Hollywood and More

September 2, 2024 By pete

By Pete Vack and Jim Sitz

In their new book Nash-Healey, A Grand Alliance, authors John Nikas and Hervé Chevalier bring to light Donald Healey’s 5,000-mile ten-day cross-country journey through America in 1948, driving a new Healey Westland in every conceivable weather situation all the way to Los Angeles.

Hollywood welcomed Donald and Geoffrey Healey, who in turn never missed a photo op. Here is the well-traveled Westland with starlet Barbara Lawrence. Photo from Nash-Healey, A Grand Alliance

Healey and son Geoffrey were amazed at the enthusiasm and knew that he could succeed in selling his cars in the U.S. According to Nikas, “In his retirement in during the 1980s, he would ponder what might have happened had he built sports car in the United States rather than England.” He returned to the UK with many contacts and ideas, but left the appropriately named Westland in California. Jim Sitz picked up the trail from there.

A Tickford Healey For You

February 5, 2024 By pete

Finally ready for the road. Note the finish is bare aluminum.

Story and photos by Bernhard Linck

Bernhard Linck is a custom furniture maker in Munich, Germany, and for his own pleasure restores cars and actually uses them on the road. Therefore he is not concerned about Pebble Beach standards, and has his own idea of how an old classic should be repurposed. Linck, an avid reader of VeloceToday, thought we might be interested in a short story about the rehabilitation of a rare Healey Tickford Saloon. Loved the idea as the Tickfords are truly rare and unusual cars, with dashing aluminum bodies powered by a healthy 2.5 liter Riley engine. Although some of the following article has also appeared on other classic car sites, here Bernhard takes us in a bit more depth with many additional photos. About Bernhard Linck

After I restored my 1962 Austin Healey, I needed a coupe for the cooler days, and so I went looking for something suitable. I found this very British 1954 Healey Tickford Sports Saloon offered on Ebay from a Turkish used-Porsche dealer in the north of Germany.

The 77 Year Old Drone

February 16, 2021 By pete

The Drone after the fatal accident. (Wilkins Archive)

Story by Graham Gauld

Drones are popular these days, my eldest daughter just recently qualified as a drone pilot and the newspapers tell us that every time we step on a commercial airplane there is a possibility we may crash because we have hit one of those things, so I prefer to talk about another drone, The Healey Drone.
