Recently we republished an old story by Ed McDonough about Count Felice Trossi, which prompted a reply from Nigel Griffiths, who told us he owned the ex-Trossi 6CM Maserati and would be at the 2019 Goodwood Members’ Meeting in April with the very same Maserati, s/n 1532.

Now isn’t that coincidental, I said, as Jonathan Sharp would also attend and could he get some photos of 1532? Of course, said Nigel. Jonathan checked the program and found that the 6CM is car 58 entered into race 4 with practice is on Saturday morning, and the Parnell cup is the first race at 9am on Sunday morning. We are good to go.

VeloceToday extends the series inviting readers to send in their photos to share with the readers. Jeff Allison continues his photographic journey – this time with part 1 of a two-part look at Ferraris photographed in 1959.

Anticipating the arrival of a new issue of SPORTS CAR ILLUSTRATED, my sports car buddy Jack Leete and I raced (well, it was in an MG TD!) to his house after school to check the mail. A new issue was there, and I remember it as though it was yesterday. There on the cover of the September 1958 issue of SPORTS CARS ILLUSTRATED was the one-off Ferrari 4.9 Superfast. Describing its acceleration, Stephen Wilder wrote, “Blasting once on the Marchal Stridor air horn, we fled the scene at full throttle, rending the air with not-so-quiet thunder and leaving a faint trace of abused rubber on the concrete.” This was possibly the moment I caught this unrelenting disease, and I’m sure many VeloceToday readers can tell a similar story.

Hard to believe, but apparently Lancia Stratos Zero: The Eternal Futurist by Gautam Sen is the only published book about the Lancia Stratos HF Zero, and the author is by far the best person to write it, with impeccable and impressive credentials. A Vice President with FIVA, Gautam Sen has authored several award-winning books: Marcello Gandini: Maestro of Design, Ballot, The Bertone Collection, Tom Tjaarda: Master of Proportions, Lamborghini: At the Cutting Edge of Design, Bugatti: The Italian Decade, and Alfa Romeo SZ Coda Tronca: The Art of Conservation, When Wedge had the Edge (all by Dalton Watson Fine Books).

WEC Spa 6 Hour, Hypercars

A day of glory at home for the Belgian team WRT, and for BMW, who achieved a fantastic double victory for the BMW M Hybrid V8 thanks to the #15 of Magnussen/Marciello/Dries Vanthoor, who finished second.

On May 7-9th, three weeks after the first round at Imola, the World Endurance Championship held its second event at the Francorcorchamps circuit in Belgium with the 6 Hours of Spa, the final rehearsal before the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will take place on June 13th and 14th.

WEC Spa 6 Hours, LMGT3

The years go by, but they are not all the same. The Ferrari 296 #21 triumphed last year. This year, although it crossed the finish line first, it was penalized 5 seconds for an unsafe restart in the pits and was therefore classified fourth.

Brooklands Italian Car Day P1

I certainly cannot be accused of being elitist, having only just returned from Rome and the amazing and exotic Anantara Concorso, it was time for a trip up to Brooklands in Surrey on May 2nd for their annual Italian Car day with Auto Italia magazine. Such a contrast to Rome but just as fantastic. The event attracts lots of exotics so plenty of shouty Ferraris and Lamborghinis, but it is the more everyday stuff which you used to see all the time but now rarely do that piqued my interest. Well, perhaps one or two exotics sneaked into my selection.

With Veloce Today’s ace British reporter Jonathan Sharp off covering the inaugural Anantara Concorso Roma in Italy, our own Goodwood insider Gary Axon has stepped in to report on just a few of the many highlights from this year’s 83rd Goodwood Members’ Meeting held on April 18-19, all with a Latin flavor.

In bright spring sunshine and unseasonably high temperatures, Goodwood turned the clock back 50 years to the blistering heat of 1976 by celebrating the spirit of that year’s motor racing season, when Brits James Hunt and Barry Sheene dominated, taking the World Championships in their respective Formula 1 and MotoGP sporting disciplines. Hunt’s ’76 Championship winning McLaren M23 and arch rival Niki Lauda’s Ferrari 312T were both present, the latter proving to be one of Maranello’s most successful Formula 1 chassis of all time.

Saturday morning, April 18th, dawned bright and sunny, in fact probably a bit too hot especially as it is only April. Having spent Friday morning running up and down Via Nazionale followed by a full day of site-seeing in Rome, we decided to catch a taxi to the Concorso held at Casina Valadier, rather than take the Metro or walk, very reasonable at only 10 Euros.
